I fully admit that my perspective here is likely skewed. What makes me angriest about the Pittsburgh shooting isn’t the fact that it happened. It isn’t the lack of sane gun control laws. It isn’t even the anti-Semitism.
It’s that the police APPREHENDED the shooter.
The police knew the guy was armed and dangerous, knew that he’d just killed people, knew that he’d just shot several police officers, but they brought him in alive.
Tamir Rice was playing in a park. Michael Brown was walking down the street. Philando Castile had a broken taillight. Stephon Clark was talking on the phone. Antwon Rose was a passenger in a stopped car. Botham Jean was just chilling at home.
They’re all dead.
Let’s shoot the totally innocent black people, but let’s bring this neo-Nazi in alive. I wonder if they took him to Burger King too.
In 2015, after Dylann Roof killed nine Black Americans at a church, the cops arrested him and took him to Burger King.
Every time I hear the words, “The shooter was apprehended,” I know that shooter was white.
Yes, we should expect our police to apprehend, rather than kill. But they don’t. They kill black people – even ones who weren’t breaking the law. White people – even ones who kill multiple victims – get taken alive. That makes me livid.
My BLACK son is about to turn 13 in a country where black kids in parks get shot, and mass murderers get taken to lunch by the cops.
Photo: New York Times. That’s Antwon Rose. In June 2018, a Pittsburgh cop shot him three times in the back, because Rose ran away when the car in which he was a passenger was stopped.
